Stamp Seal Concrete Sealer

SOLVENT BASED PURE ACRYLIC CONCRETE SEALER

StampSeal-25 (also know as StampSeal-Gloss) is a solvent based, 25% solids pure MMA acrylic sealer specially designed for stamped, stained and decorative concrete. StampSeal offers deep color enhancement and a rich Wet Look with a gloss finish. StampSeal is also a great choice for interior floors and many other applications where a 25% premium pure acrylic sealant is desired.

StampSeal is formulated from a 100% pure methyl-methacrylate acrylic resin, which means it will never yellow from UV exposure like styrene-acrylics. Pure acrylics should only be applied to concrete that is fully cured (28+ days). StampSeal is one of our most user-friendly and easy to apply acrylics. It offers easy application by roller or sprayer.

What's up with all these acrylics? What's the freaking difference? Which is right for me?

As you search for the "perfect sealer" you will likely come across hundreds of solvent-based acrylics, all in a different shiny can, and all claiming to be the "best sealer ever invented". Truth is, there are only a few basic differences in solvent-based acrylics that are even noticeable to the average user. Many (if not most) are the EXACT same products private labeled over and over with new claims to fame. Here are the three basic things you should be looking at when choosing a solvent-based acrylic:

Acrylic Formula - Pure Acrylic or Co-polymer? Pure acrylics are typically a little more durable than co-polymer (styrene-acrylics) and will not yellow with UV exposure. Pure acrylics should only be applied to cured concrete (28+ days old). Styrene-Acrylics are often referred to as "cure and seals since they can be applied to freshly poured concrete. The addition of styrene into the formula allows for a bit of breathability. Because of this, styrene-acrylics are a little more forgiving if you apply them over concrete that has a higher moisture content. Unfortunately, they typically don't last as long and most will "yellow" to some degree over time with UV exposure, no matter what the manufacturer says.

Solids Ratio - This is simply the ratio of acrylic to solvent in the product. The most common ratios are 25% and 30%. Simply put, 25% products contain 5% less solids than 30% products. This means a 25% product is a bit thinner, penetrates deeper and is sprayable. Usually both produce the same gloss finish, but because the 25% leaves a thinner film and penetrates deeper, it appears more of a semi-gloss than a 30%. It has been our experience that 25% products will consistently outperform 30% products due to their superior penetration. Thinner films are also less likely to flake, peel or chip than thicker films. The exception is exposed aggregate where a thicker product is often needed due to the additional texture and porosity.

VOC content - This has to do with the types of solvents that are used in the formula. Many local, state and regional laws now regulate the amount of VOC's a product can emit. This means "low VOC" formulas usually contain higher levels of "exempt" solvents like acetone and butyl-acetates. For the most part this does not change the quality of the product, but it does affect the drying speed. Typically "low VOC" solvents evaporate more quickly, which gives the sealer less time to penetrate and/or bond to an existing coating. Delamination is a big problem with low VOC solvent-based acrylics when applied in hot temps or direct sunlight.

So.... If you are looking for a solvent-based acrylic, consider the attributes of each and make the best decision for your situation based on facts, not brand, packaging, marketing or online sealer review sites just trying to market the products they sell.

Stamp-Seal-25

Don't let the name fool you. Stamp Seal isn't just for stamped concrete! This is our most popular acrylic for all types of decorative concrete where a high-gloss, wet-look, premium pure acrylic is desired.

Stamp-Seal is available in both "standard VOC" and "low VOC" to accommodate laws in a majority of states. Like most "low VOC" solvent-based products, the "low VOC" version of Stamp-Seal dries faster than the standard version. for this reason we recommend special care be taken to avoid application of this version in hot temperatures or direct sunlight. The "low VOC" version is great in situations where a fast-drying product is needed, no matter what your local regs are. If you are in a low VOC area, we encourage you to carefully explore all of the options available to you.

Stamp-Seal, along with most solvent-based acrylics, is compatible with many other similar solvent-based acrylics that may already exist on previously sealed concrete. Solvent-based acrylics should never be applied over any existing water-based sealer. If your concrete has an existing water-based sealer, it must be removed before applying Stamp-Seal.

Stamp-Seal-25 can be used clear, with color or with our special matting agent. Each part of the system is sold separately to maximize versatility.

Color Tint For Acrylic SealersAcrylPack Color:

Color can easily be added to Stamp-Seal to create beautiful, semi-transparent or solid colors. AcrylPack Color is available in 14 great colors to fit any situation. Colors can also be mixed to create endless combinations. Simply add less pigment to achieve a more translucent color or use up to 8oz / gallon for a solid opaque color.

Matting Additive for Acrylic SealersMatte-50:

If a lower gloss, matte or satin finish is desired, Matte-50 Matting Additive can also be added to easily create the exact gloss level you desire. Simply add less Matte-50 to achieve a higher gloss finish or use up to 8oz / gallon for a beautiful matte finish. Add Matte-50 to second coat only.

No Slip Additive for Acrylic SealersSurface Grip

If additional texture is needed, Surface Grip may be used for additional slip resistance. Adding Surface Grip is a great way to reduce slip and falls, reduce gloss/reflection and also hide minor imperfections in the concrete.

Cleaning and Preparation Instructions

1. Completely remove all oils and contaminates from the surface. All previous sealers or coatings must be removed before application unless they are a compatible solvent-based acrylic. Use only cleaning methods suitable for the substrate you are cleaning. Clean oily concrete with . Use a bristle brush for heavily oiled spots. Area to be treated must be clean, porous and sound.

2. Use only the amount of cleaners necessary to remove contaminates, oils, fluids and sealers from the substrate. If using acidic cleaners to etch surface or to remove efflorescence, calcium, rust, etc, be sure to neutralize and restore pH with . Rinse thoroughly! Surface and pores must be clean, dry and free of all chemicals before applying Stamp-Seal.

3. If using over cured trowel finished concrete, diamond grinding is always recommended to open the surface and allow adhesion of the sealer. Do not grind finer than 100 grit. Beyond 100 grit, sealer adhesion will be compromised. Dry grinding is highly recommended to avoid introduction of moisture into the concrete. If diamond grinding is not possible, first etch with .

4. Allow area to dry completely.

Application Instructions

Always test in an inconspicuous area before use to ensure compatibility and desired results!

Stamp-Seal 25 may be applied using a solvent resistant roller or industrial concrete sprayer.

The Low VOC version should only be sprayed using the due to it's higher concentration of acetone.

Do not allow to Puddle! Thick or puddled areas may prevent the solvent from evaporating and may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which may cause milky white spots. Applying too thin may cause sealer to prematurely delaminate, flake or wear away. Allow sealer to dry for 24 hours for light traffic and at least 48 hours for heavy traffic. If applying two coats, wait approximately 4-6 hours between coats. Do not thin product.

Make sure all sprinklers are turned off for a 24 hour period of time. Apply Stamp-Seal only if rain is not expected for at least 24 hours. Do not apply Stamp-Seal if surface temperature is below 40° F., or above 80° F. If possible always apply as concrete is cooling, rather than as concrete is warming. Warming by the sun causes the air inside the concrete to expand and push out through the surface, often causing bubbles in the still wet sealer.

MATTE FINISH ADDITIVE: If a low gloss, matte or satin finish is desired, can be added to create the exact gloss level you desire. Follow directions on Matte-50 for mixing instructions. Add Matte-50 to second coat only.

COLOR ADDITIVE: If a tinted or colored sealer is desired, can be added to create beautiful semi-transparent or solid colors. Follow directions on tint pack for mixing instructions. For most consistent results, add color to both coats.

SLIP RESISTANCE: may be used for additional slip resistance or added texture. Adding Surface Grip is a great way to reduce slip and falls, reduce gloss/reflection and also hide minor imperfections in the concrete. Follow mixing instructions and do not overload system. When using a non-skid additive in acrylics, do not add to first coat. Add it to second coat. The addition of an anti-skid additive will make spraying difficult, so roll-on application is typically recommended when using Surface Grip. All non-skid additives may shorten the life of the film to some degree.

Of course, having the right tools will make your job easier, so scroll to the bottom to see our recommended Sprayers, Rollers and Application Tools!

Coverage Rates

Coverage rates are approximate and will vary depending on substrate density, porosity, temperature, application method and desired appearance. In most cases, two coats are recommended. Total project estimate includes both coats, and is on average how much total product you should apply to each type of surface. Coverage rates are based on bare, clean, dry, un-sealed surfaces. On previously sealed concrete, coverage rates WILL vary.

Note: In some cases, on exposed aggregate, it may be acceptable to apply the entire "total project volume" in one heavy coat. This will depend on temperature, substrate porosity and ESPECIALLY skill level and experience of the applicator.

Exposed Aggregate: 100-125 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 175-225 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 225-275 sq. ft / gallon

Broom Swept Concrete: 125-150 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 225-275 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 275-325 sq. ft / gallon

Stamped Concrete: 150-175 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 275-325 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 325-375 sq. ft / gallon

Trowelled Concrete: 150-200 sq. ft. / gallon (total project estimate)
1st coat - 250-350 sq. ft / gallon
2nd coat - 350-450 sq. ft / gallon

Maintenance

Like all things, maintaining optimal protection of a sealed surface requires scheduled maintenance. Once properly applied, surfaces sealed with Stamp-Seal may periodically require a light cleaning to remove dirt, dust, mud, etc. In most cases, low pressure water is all that is needed for routine cleaning. Do not use a hot-water pressure washer unless you are preparing to apply a maintenance coat of Stamp-Seal. Re-seal surface every two years or as needed to prevent buildup of sealer.
